The time has come to let this space survival story into your home. After a run at the box office you could hear about from here, Project Hail Mary is coming to Prime Video on July 3, 2026. Missed the IMAX? Now’s your chance for a good old couch session.
When and where to watch
Prime Video has put a pin in the date: July 3, 2026. They made an announcement on the film’s socials to make sure everyone was in the loop for a worldwide at-home premiere. Fits right in with your weekend plans.
It’s the best of both worlds if you like the theatre vibe but don’t want to go out. A well-made space yarn is just a tap away on your app.
A few things to have in mind:
– Platform: Prime Video
– Date: July 3, 2026
– Star: Ryan Gosling
– In the director’s chair: Phil Lord and Christopher Miller
Box office muscle and audience pull
There’s a reason for the buzz. We’re talking over $683 million in total, with $344 million from North America and $339 million from the rest of the world. Even in India, it put up Rs 90 crore at the till.
Put simply, it’s one of 2026’s top earners for Amazon MGM. People were talking about it, and that kind of word of mouth is what makes a movie an event, not just another sci-fi flick.
The hook: brains, peril, and an unlikely ally
Gosling is in the role of Ryland Grace, a science teacher who comes to in deep space with his memory in tatters. As he puts the pieces back together, he has to figure out how to keep a strange element from snuffing out the Sun.
It’s a mystery in the making, but it becomes as much about the people as the plot. Grace has to use some unorthodox methods and lean on a new friend to get by, which gives the film its heart in the middle of the void.
Cast and creators
Lord and Miller have put their stamp on it, mixing in some of that signature charm. You’ll see Sandra Huller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung and Milana Vayntrub in the mix. And then there’s Rocky, the alien, who is all thanks to James Ortiz’s work with performance and puppetry.
Drew Goddard put pen to paper for the script, drawing from Andy Weir’s book. Greig Fraser is the one with the camera, Joel Negron in the editing room, and Daniel Pemberton on the score.
From theatres to Prime Video
It made its way to U.S. screens back on March 20, 2026. Over in India, it opened a week later in all the top-tier formats like IMAX, with dubs in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu as well as the original English.
An Amazon MGM production with Sony handling the distribution, the starrer had enough of a following in the theatres to carry over to the streaming side of things.
Why it matters now
Now you can rewatch it, or put it on for someone who wasn’t in the multiplex. There will be some talk of the way they handle the problems in the film, and the oddball bond at the centre of it all.
We saw the scope and the drama in the cinema. On July 3, 2026, Prime Video is putting it in your hands. Make a note of it, turn down the lights and get ready for takeoff from the comfort of your sofa.
