South Africa’s captain, Aiden Markram, leads the XI, a side with plenty of big hitting and a very good fast bowling attack. The choices were based on how players did during the tournament and the moments in matches where they really made a difference.
How the team was picked – the selection committee and what they looked at
A varied group of people – past players, coaches, and cricket people who study the game – picked the team. They looked at batting strike rates, averages, how much of an effect players had on games, and how consistently they played well in both the group and knockout parts of the tournament. Players were chosen for both breaking records and for what they did in games where there was a lot on the line.
The final eleven players, and the twelfth man, were made public. The players were chosen so the team would be well-rounded in batting, spin bowling, and fast bowling. When deciding on positions and roles, the panel put a lot of importance on players being able to do more than one thing and on performances that won matches.
Which Indians were chosen, and who did what
Four Indian players were in the XI, which shows how well India did in winning the championship. Sanju Samson was selected to open and keep wicket, after a really good tournament in which he was named Player of the Tournament. Samson scored runs regularly, and sped up the scoring when it was most important.
Ishan Kishan is at number three, and has kept up his aggressive style of T20 batting. Kishan made quick runs all through the event and was a major part of India’s middle order. Hardik Pandya gives the team balance, scoring runs and taking wickets in important games.
Jasprit Bumrah is the main fast bowler, able to take wickets at any time in a match. He bowled important spells – including taking four wickets in the final – and was among the top wicket-takers in the tournament. These four Indian players show how India had both power and smart, tactical depth in their bowling.
Good players from other countries, and how the team is put together
Sahibzada Farhan of Pakistan was the tournament’s highest run-scorer, and the one Pakistani player in the team. Farhan got a lot of runs – two hundreds, more than 380 in total – and had a really good strike rate. Even though Pakistan went out in the Super Eight stage, his tournament was historic.
Aiden Markram was made captain, for leading his side to a string of wins and for getting important runs at number four. England’s Will Jacks and West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder were picked for being able to contribute with both bat and ball. Both players gave the team depth and the ability to do different things.
The fast bowling attack has Lungi Ngidi and Blessing Muzarabani, who both took wickets at important times. Adil Rashid finished off the spin bowling with control and the ability to take wickets, which went well with the team’s mostly fast-bowling attack.
Players who didn’t quite make the team, and the twelfth man
Shadley van Schalkwyk was the twelfth man, after a very effective, though short, tournament. He got a good number of wickets in the chances he was given, which showed that how much a player affected a game was more important than how long they had been playing when picking substitutes. The choice of players on the bench shows how important it is to have momentum and to bowl fast with efficiency.
The team chosen has power hitters, players who can finish off an innings, and specialist bowlers, so that the team can deal with any situation in a match in a smart way. How well players field and how they handle pressure were also things that the panel took into account when making its decisions.
The final match of the tournament, and India winning the cup
India successfully defended their T20 World Cup title, beating New Zealand in the final to win the trophy for the third time. The winning team made a huge total of 255/5, and then bowled New Zealand out for 159, winning by 96 runs. The team’s batting depth, good finishing, and accurate bowling all came together to give the final result.
The ICC Team of the Tournament shows that balance, picking players who made excellent numbers and won matches. With four Indians and one Pakistani chosen, the team shows both how well individuals did and the team work that made the 2026 T20 World Cup what it was.
