On paper, JSW MG Motor India has put the Majestor out there to be the top of the line. The 4×4 will set you back Rs 44.99 lakh (ex-showroom), with the base at Rs 40.99 lakh. If you are in the market for a Fortuner or a Kodiaq, the Majestor is here to offer you the space and hardware of a big SUV without any compromises on the premium side.
You’ll find the Majestor in two automatic trims: the 4×2 for Rs 40.99 lakh and the 4×4 for Rs 44.99 lakh, ex-showroom. It is a step up from what MG has had before and is no-nonsense in going after the three-row, full-size crowd.
Prices and where it stands in the market
Then there is the competition. A 4×2 diesel-AT Fortuner is yours for Rs 37.61 lakh. The 4×4 version of the same is Rs 43.12 lakh, which is a bit less than the 4×4 Majestor. But when you look at the more upmarket Fortuners, the MG makes a case for being the better value.
The numbers tell the story:
– Fortuner 4×2 diesel-AT: Rs 37.61 lakh
– Fortuner 4×4 diesel-AT: Rs 43.12 lakh
– Fortuner Legender 4×4 diesel-AT: Rs 48.29 lakh
– Fortuner GR-S 4×4 diesel-AT: Rs 50.46 lakh
– Kodiaq from: Rs 36.99 lakh
– At the top end, MG is some Rs 2 lakh under the Kodiaq
– Jeep Meridian 4×2 diesel-AT: Rs 33.75 lakh
– Jeep Meridian 4×4 diesel-AT: Rs 37.82 lakh
– The Tayron only comes in one variant in India

According to MG, the Majestor is the biggest in class – 5,046mm long, 2,016mm wide and 1,870mm tall on a 2,950mm wheelbase. You can see that in the way it sits on 19-inch alloys with the LED tail-lamps giving it a bit of an edge on the road.
Room for the family, and then some
Get in and you are in the ‘M-Lounge’; it is all about a hush and some comfort. There are six- and seven-seaters to choose from. With 343 litres of boot to work with, or 1,350 if you tuck the third row away, it is well suited for a trip to the airport or a long weekend.
They have made a point of putting the luxury front and centre in the cabin. The driver has a 12-way powered seat with memory, while the passenger has an 8-way. And if you need to unwind, the ventilated seats come with eight different massage modes.
You have the 12-speaker JBL, 64 shades of ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof to put you in the right mood.
Then there’s the tech side of things. Two 12.3-inch screens and MG’s i-Smart 2.0 are at the heart of it, with some 75 connected features to be had. We’re talking home-to-car integration, remote functions and your music, all made possible by a partnership with Jio. And for day-to-day ease, you’ll find three-zone climate control, a 220V outlet, two wireless chargers and a tailgate you can open with a wave of your hand.

Under the hood of the Majestor is a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel with 215.5PS and 478.5Nm on tap. Mated to an 8-speed auto (in 4×2 or 4×4), it’s built for those who like to put in the miles without sacrificing fuel economy.
No-nonsense off-road gear
MG has put in a proper 4×4 system with 10 terrain settings – from Sand to Snow. Put it in Auto and it will do the thinking for you: 2WD when you can, 4WD when you need to.
What sets it apart are the triple differential locks up front, in the back and in the middle. Toss in M-Crawl for low-speed work, 219mm of clearance and an 810mm wading depth, and this is no longer just something in a brochure.

Keeping you safe
The ADAS on board is Level 2, with adaptive cruise, lane keeping, AEB and smart headlamps to make life on the motorway a bit less tiring. But that’s not all. You get over 30 safety items as standard: six airbags, ESP, ABS with EBD, traction control, roll intervention and hill hold. There’s also a 360-degree HD camera for good measure.
Is it for you?
If you’re after a Fortuner for its rough-road mettle but would like a more upmarket interior and better tech for the same kind of money, the Majestor is worth a closer look. It’s a solid option for big families that need some diesel pull and a bit of capability.

On the subject of ownership
MG's 'Shield' plan comes with a three-year unlimited-km warranty, roadside help and three free services. If you want to pre-book online or in-store for Rs 41,000, we have a little extra for the first 3,000: a five-year warranty and service contract, plus five years of roadside cover.
You can have it in Pearl White, Concrete Grey, Metal Black or Metal Ash. With what they’re offering here, MG is making a case for anyone who wants a flagship with some substance.
