India’s current Census is the biggest in the world and is being done completely on computers. The people going to homes to collect information have apps on their phones to record details as they get them, which makes things quicker and more open. Modi explained that this Census will be different for anyone who’s done it before because the data is being put in digitally right away, and he asked people to fully help the people in the field.
Digital-first Census 2027
To make it easier for you, you can fill out the details yourself online up to fifteen days before someone comes to your home. After you submit the online form, you’ll get a special ID number to your phone or email. When the Census worker visits, you show them this ID to confirm your information, so you won’t have to give it all again.
Simple self-enumeration explained
Modi promised that all the details you give in the Census will be totally protected using strong computer security. He emphasized that every person in India should know about the Census and be responsible in their participation. In states where the online part is done, the work of listing all the houses has begun, and so far about 12 million families have been included which shows things are moving forward nicely.
Confidentiality and progress so far
He also said that the first time the 500 MWe Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam started working (reached criticality) was a hugely important achievement. With this, our nuclear scientists have made India’s energy supply more secure for the long term. He said this is a big step forward for India’s nuclear power program, and it was built using technology developed in India. He remembers seeing the fuel put into the reactor in March force, and this reactor uses uranium-plutonium fuel (MOX), and will later use thorium-232 to make uranium-233.
Here is how the self-enumeration will work, as described by Modi:
– Log in during the 15-day window before the visit
– Enter family details online at your convenience
– Submit and receive a unique ID on mobile or email
– Show the ID to the enumerator for verification
– Avoid repeating information during the visit
Nuclear and renewable highlights from the address
Modi also talked about renewable energy sources. Wind power is now over 56 gigawatts, and nearly 6 gigawatts were added in the last year. Pralhad Joshi, a government minister, said 2025-26 was the best year ever for wind power, with 6.1 GW added and a total of over 56.1 GW now installed, with 28 GW more being built. He also said that India has the potential for about 1,164 gigawatts of wind power at a height of 150 metres. He’s confident that we’ll have 100 gigawatts by 2030 and 156 gigawatts by 2036, and that wind power will work well with solar power to meet the busiest times for energy use.
What comes next
In short, Modi wants the Census of 2027 to work, and that means people being involved and the digital systems keeping everything safe. Because you can now fill it in yourself and listing of homes is already happening in many places, he wants you to get involved early and give the Census workers accurate details that have been checked when they arrive.
