Realme 16T Launches in India with 8,000mAh Battery and Selfie Mirror

Realme has put a lot of faith in the 16T, its new India launch that starts at Rs 29,999. It's an 8,000mAh behemoth with a rear 'Selfie Mirror' for good measure, and it is made for the kind of user who wants their phone to last as long as they do. Then there is the question of the chipset in a no-holds-barred Rs 30,000 market.

As the entry-level of the 16 series, sitting below the 16 5G and the Pro models, the 16T is meant to appeal to upgraders who care more about dependability than what a benchmark app says. You can pre-book on Flipkart or the Realme store now; sales open on the 27th of May.

Realme is offering three RAM and storage options, with multiple colours. Pre-booking has started, and availability is tied to Flipkart and Realme channels:
– 6GB + 128GB at Rs 29,999
– 8GB + 128GB at Rs 31,999
– 8GB + 256GB at Rs 34,999

Battery-first hardware and design

The 8,000mAh battery is the star of the show. Realme will have you believe you can go three days on a single charge, and with 45W fast charging and 15W reverse charging, it can even top off your earbuds or another phone. They are touting a seven-year lifespan for the battery, which is in line with where the industry is heading, and the new Realme UI 7.0 is supposed to keep things running for up to six years.

For the vloggers out there, the ‘Selfie Mirror’ on the back is a novelty that lets you put yourself in the frame with the better rear cameras. The display is a 6.8-inch 144Hz LCD – not the highest resolution, but smooth. And for the price, the IP66/68/69/69K ratings are hard to argue with.

Performance and cameras

But the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 inside is where you might see some trade-offs. It’s an octa-core with a Mali-G57 GPU, and while it’s efficient, it doesn’t have the oomph of some of the competition. The 50MP Sony camera and 16MP front shooter are given a hand by AI tools like LumaColor and Popout to make for decent portraits, but if you’re after an ultra-wide, you’ll have to look elsewhere.

You can get it in Starlight Red, Black, or Aurora Green.

Ecosystem add-ons launched alongside

On the accessories side, there are the Buds Air 8 Pro and the Watch S5. The Buds come with 55dB of noise cancelling, an 11+6mm dual driver, and all the trappings like LHDC 5.0 and Bluetooth 6.1 for up to 50 hours of life. The Watch S5 has a 1.43-inch 1500-nit AMOLED, full GPS, and tracking for everything from stress to SpO2, with a 20-day battery claim.

Bottom line

In the end, the 16T is for the person who wants a phone that works and won’t die on them. If you need a gaming rig or a camera with more range, you have other options. But for the one who is always on the move, this could be the one to have.
