It’s been seven years, but the world of The Big Bang is making a comeback with a bit of a wild card. The trailer for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is out now, and it has a firm OTT date: 9 PM ET on HBO Max, July 23, 2026. In this one, they make the comic-book store owner into the most unlikely of multiverse saviours.
Stuart takes the wheel in a high-stakes detour
Kevin Sussman’s Stuart Bloom is no longer just in the background; he’s the main event. The official word is that he puts a wrench in a contraption put together by Sheldon and Leonard, and in doing so, ushers in a sort of Armageddon across the multiverse.
Putting things right won’t be easy. We’re told one of the universes has made of Barry Kripke a dictator, which should make for some funny trouble with a side of danger.

Why fans are buzzing
You’ll see some of the same people, but with a different slant. Lauren Lapkus is back as Denise, Brian Posehn is Bert Kibbler once more, and there are hints of some other characters from the show in their alternate forms. It’s the kind of nostalgic chaos the die-hards have been after.
The trailer promises gleeful sci-fi anarchy
What you see in the footage is a machine that was supposed to set the record straight and ends up making a hash of it. What follows is a kind of pinball game through the realities, with enough of a wink at the big screen to not let up on the laughs.
There’s a world or two that will remind you of The Matrix, and another with a Mad Max feel to it. You even get a glimpse of some cartoonish places, a few bigfoots, and a version of Stuart who has lost his hair. Endless possibilities, a hero who doesn’t want to be one, and a lot of one-liners.
Release plan and where to watch
HBO Max will be the place for all 10 episodes, beginning July 23, 2026 at 9 PM ET. They’re putting them out week by week, the way you do when you want to have some watercooler talk about who might pop up next and in what guise.
Here are the details:
– Premiere: July 23, 2026
– 9 PM ET
– On HBO Max
– 10 in total
– Dripping out weekly
As for India, nothing is set in stone yet. No local partner has been put forward, but since JioHotstar usually has the HBO Max stuff, that’s a safe bet. We’ll know more in time.
Who is steering the spin-off
You have Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady and Zak Penn at the helm. It’s a re-up of the team from the original, with a screenwriter who knows how to bend a world. All three are executive producers, and Kyle Newacheck is on board too, having called the shots on a few of the first season’s episodes.
With Warner Bros. Television and Chuck Lorre Productions behind it, the intent is obvious: to put together a multiverse that still has that homey feel for the fans of the show.
Where it fits in the Big Bang lineage
Make this the fourth one in the family. After the 12-year run of the original (2007-2019), Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy, here we are. But this is different. Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is all in on the science fiction and the adventure part of it.
The idea is to have the character work and then ratchet up the stakes. If you’ve ever put your mind to how the gang’s life would look if the rules of the multiverse applied, this is your answer.
John Ross Bowie is in the cast, and there’s room for some other fan-favourites to show up in a different light. With a steady stream of cliffhangers, the fandom will have its work cut out for it.
So where do we go from here? A reality in trouble, a comic-book guy in over his head, and a franchise that isn’t afraid to be a little odd. He may not be able to save the universe, but he could well be worth adding to your list.
