What was meant to be a low-key Sunday live has become the talk of the town. A couple of seconds of Massacre, the first single from the movie, were all it took to have timelines ablaze. Fans are on Yash Raj Films’ case to let us have the full version. The message from the audience is plain: make it happen.
Fans flip for Massacre teaser
The way the hook comes in is no accident. People are calling it a banger, with a beat you can’t get out of your head. I saw one fan put in a good word for YRF to put it out, and he wasn’t alone; a lot of posts like that have been piling up since the stream wrapped up.
Some are already on repeat with the preview, which tells you the appeal is wider than just the die-hards. For a movie that has only just put its trailer out there, this kind of response is well-timed, whetting our appetite for what we can expect from Alpha.
A preview that travelled fast
It didn’t take long for bits and pieces of the live to do the rounds on fan and meme pages. You could see why: there was a naturalness to it. Sharvari was in the driver’s seat and Alia was in the passenger, the two of them having a bit of fun to the rhythm as if they were at a party.
There was a spontaneity to it that made the whole thing feel right. Now the request is on the table: give us the track, and do it before the next round of promo moves on to something else.
Alpha’s trailer sets the stakes
We’ve already seen in the trailer that Alia’s Sita is an assassin who was made to kill, and she’s in for a reckoning with the man who was once her mentor. Bobby Deol is on the other side of that, and the way they’re set up to go at it is all about old loyalties broken.
Sharvari is with Sita for the mission, though what she does is being kept under wraps. There are some Ramayana references in the mix too – Sita is positioning herself as an avenger of sorts, one who will put an end to things and face her own agnipariksha.
Inside YRF’s spy universe
This is the seventh time we’re being let into YRF’s world of spies, after Pathaan, War, War 2, Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai and Tiger 3. You know what you’re in for with that kind of pedigree: it’s got a certain look and feel to it.
Anil Kapoor is in it as well. We met him as RAW’s Vikrant Kaul in War 2, and there are nods to his involvement in the Alpha programme. It’s a minor scene, but it means a lot for the franchise down the line.
The marketing moment that matters
Sometimes a first single is what makes or breaks a film in the summer, and Massacre is moving in the right direction. It’s the sort of thing you can put on a loop and share around. If it comes out in time, it will be hard to ignore when you’re thinking of heading to the box office.
YRF hasn’t put a date on the calendar for the full version. But the nudge from the public is hard to miss, and the timing is right to make a move while the trailer is still top of mind and the clips are making waves.
Here is the gist of what you’ll be seeing in the comments after the live:
– A hook you can’t help but hum
– Fits the high energy of Alpha
– Feels like it was made, not manufactured
– YRF, let us have the song now
What comes next
We’ll have to see if YRF is going to act on the demand. They usually have a plan for when to drop a tune to keep the heat on, and between the stars and the casual reveal, they don’t need to do much to build interest here.
Time is of the essence. Shiv Rawail’s Alpha hits the big screen on July 3rd. Should Massacre come out in the meantime, the conversation is bound to turn to the soundtrack in a hurry.
