You could say Ramayana is in the middle of a bit of a maelstrom. A visiting creator has it on record that the makers put out a rough-edged intro of Ranbir on purpose to make some noise. The whole thing has put a new kind of heat on a project that was already under a lot of eyes.
What set things off
The makers had a day for creators on set earlier in the week. You could find director Nitesh Tiwari, producer Namit Malhotra, and the likes of Yash and Ranbir there. Dhruv Parikshit, who makes content about the industry, was one of them and put up some photos and video from his time on the lot.
When a viewer asked him about what they were seeing, Dhruv was candid. He said the VFX was a work in progress but the scope of it was huge, like Avatar. Then he made the case that a VFX man let him in on a secret: the team put up a watered-down version of Rama when they had something better, just to get people talking and get some unearned mileage out of it.
Then came the retraction
Dhruv took down his original comment by Thursday and put up a new one. His line now is that the VFX is solid and still being worked on; some of what they saw may have been done months back. He also had good words for the character work and the overall Indian fantasy feel of it.
But the internet doesn’t forget. Screenshots of his first take on it were all over the place. And with another post making the rounds to the same effect – that the toned-down glimpse of Rama was meant to stir up some trouble – the story only got bigger.
It rubs some the wrong way
The first teaser, which was supposed to be your first look at Rama, had viewers in awe of the size of it, but not everyone was sold on the CGI, especially with some of the rakshasha. The studio has put out feelers that any hiccups will be put right before you see it in a theatre.
So when you hear that the weaker stuff was by design, it divides the room. Some call it smart campaign work. Others feel they’ve been had, and with an epic like this, you don’t want to let down the people with the high hopes and the nostalgia for it.
Let’s put aside the noise and look at what we know:
– Nitesh Tiwari is at the helm
– You have Ranbir as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana
– Namit Malhotra is on the producing side
– Part 1 is coming for Diwali 2026
– Part 2 will follow in a year or so
A different side of the story
Put the fuss aside and Dhruv’s posts show a lot of enthusiasm for the world they’re building. He has no trouble calling the designs beautiful and the Ramayana universe something to be in, even if some of the shots are still in the can.
That’s where you have the rub: big plans versus a piece of footage that drew some flak. Whether or not the theory about the nerfed teaser is true, it’s what has everyone talking.
The faces behind it
Then there is the cast to carry the weight of it. Ranbir is your Lord Rama, with Sai and Yash in their respective roles. Add in Ravie Dubey and Sunny Deol and you have a star power to back up what they’re trying to do on screen.
Having both Yash and Ranbir on hand for the influencers’ day was a way of being open with the public. Now that openness is being put to the test in the comments section.
Where we go from here
We’ll have to wait and see if the next round of official material puts these concerns to rest. They’ve said they’ll iron out the kinks, and we’ll hold them to it.
For now, it’s just a claim. But in a market as noisy as this, a good controversy has a way of moving fast, and Ramayana is right in the thick of it.
