Nissan Tekton to Launch in India: SUV with Turbo-Petrol Engines and Premium Features

Nissan is making its way back into India's SUV segment with the Tekton, to be put on show on July 9, 2026.

You’ll see some of the same underpinnings as the Renault Duster in this one, but don’t expect a carbon copy. The Tekton has its own look and comes with the kind of kit that family car buyers are after, like a 360-degree camera and a panoramic sunroof. We have word of two turbo-petrols, and a 7-seater is down the line.

Launch timing and where it fits

The plan is to re-enter a very competitive space with the Tekton. It’s a case of well-known hardware with a new face, and for anyone in the market for a Duster or something else, it should put in an appearance on the shortlist.

Positioning and what comes next

This is Nissan’s way of returning to a key part of the business after being out for a while. The Tekton is a platform-mate to the Duster, sure, but the tuning and design will set it apart.

It’s more than just a model year change. With the Gravite already out, this is part of a wider push for the brand here in India. A 7-seater will come along at some point to cover more ground with the family crowd.

Why Tekton matters for buyers

When you’re mulling over value for money, the Duster is hard to ignore. The Tekton is going for the same sort of buyer, only with a bit of Nissan in the mix. The 360 camera and the sunroof are the sort of things you want, and they’re on the table.

Then there’s the history. They’ve been hinting at a Patrol influence, for a no-nonsense, upmarket feel that doesn’t get in the way of daily driving. That might be what tips the scales for some.

Engines and transmissions

As for the numbers, Nissan has put two turbo-petrols on the table. You can have the 1.0-litre with 100hp and 166Nm, or step up to the 1.3-litre for 160hp and 280Nm if you want to put a smile on your face.

Both will come with a 6-speed manual as a matter of course. The 1.3 also has a 6-speed DCT for those who prefer an auto. We haven’t been told yet if the 1.8-litre hybrid from the Duster is in the cards.

Design highlights and cabin expectations

Visually, the Tekton is its own thing. Up front you have LED headlamps, a wide grille with some chrome, and a dual-tone bumper. The bonnet is a bit of a presence, with the name in big letters.

From the side, you can tell where it comes from – the wheel arches, the door handles in the window. But the 18-inch alloys should give it some attitude. Round the back, it’s all connected LEDs, a spoiler, and a single-tone tail-gate.

Step inside and the three-tone palette continues the premium vibe. Add in the convenience features and it should make an impression in the showroom.

Key points buyers should note

It’s a packed field out there. After the Kicks was let go in 2023, this is a fresh start for Nissan’s SUV lineup. The idea is to offer the same reliability with better looks and more to like.

If you are eyeing an SUV in this band, keep these in mind before bookings open:
– India unveil is on July 9, 2026
– Two turbo-petrol engines, no diesel announced
– Automatic option limited to the 1.3-litre DCT
