Om Birla Calls on Lawmakers to Prioritize Public Integrity Over Politics

Om Birla, who is the Speaker of the Lok Sabha (the lower house of the Indian Parliament), told politicians to put what's right for the public ahead of their own political goals. He says young leaders and technology are key to India becoming a "Viksit Bharat" (a developed India) by and to make our democratic organizations and the lives of the people better, we need government that is open, and countries in the region to work together.

At the CPA India Region Zone VII conference in Goa, Om Birla said politicians should do a better job of being honest in their work for the public and get above their own parties and personal interests. He wants elected officials to take what people want and turn it into concrete results, and to strengthen democracy through a government that is open, involves everyone, and responds to people.

Message to Lawmakers on Integrity and Public Service

Birla explained that people trusting the government depends on having a clear vision, being dedicated, and completely working for the public good. Politicians, he said, need to prioritize the people they represent before their political party and work hard to give people what they need. Being honest is essential if we want to build a country that’s developed, fair, and able to be self-sufficient.

He reminded politicians that because people voted for them, they have a responsibility to turn people’s hopes into actual policies and outcomes. He said they should have government practices that are clear and where people can hold those in charge responsible, which will strengthen people’s faith in our democracy and give communities throughout the country noticeable benefits.

Youth Leadership and the Viksit Bharat 2047 Goal

Birla said young politicians will be hugely important for India becoming “Viksit Bharat” by 2047. He wants these new leaders to bring new ideas, lots of energy, and new approaches to making laws. He believes their involvement can speed up development that includes everyone and help build an economy that’s fair, self-sufficient and based on equity.

Birla encouraged these politicians to create policies that balance economic growth with improvements in society. He connected young leadership to being able to continue to succeed in the long run, saying that if we invest in good governance now, it will create opportunities for future generations.

Strengthening Legislative Effectiveness and Competition

Birla said knowing the rules, how things work, and the process of making laws helps politicians be more effective in the House. He noted that politicians who really get involved in debates and talking about policies tend to become important people in their states. Being active strengthens both the politicians themselves and the organizations they are a part of.

Birla also said that healthy competition between the lawmaking bodies of the states can help improve the public’s lives and how the government functions. He said that state assemblies and councils should learn from each other, use the best approaches from other places, and improve standards by comparing themselves to each other in a positive way, not by being rivals.

Technology, Research, and Human Sensitivity in Governance

When it comes to research and innovation, Birla said we should use science and technology to fix problems the public has. He said tools like artificial intelligence can really change how laws are made, improve how services are provided, and help us make better decisions in areas like developing coastal areas and tourism.

However, he also warned that as technology improves, it needs to be used with understanding and care for people. Politicians should interact with the public with kindness and good will, making sure that the government responds to people and combines using facts and data with a real understanding of what people need in their local areas.

Regional Cooperation Through CPA Zone VII and Forward Agenda

Birla said the newly formed CPA Zone VII which includes Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa, is a good way for areas to work together. He thinks this zone can help share good ways of governing, developing coastal areas, and promoting tourism, and turn challenges in the area into chances for everyone to work together.

The conference was a place for experienced and new leaders to exchange ideas about how to be excellent in democracy and move toward progressive government. Birla ended by saying that working together, being innovative, and holding onto democratic values will guide India toward lasting growth and help us achieve the goal of “Viksit Bharat” by 2047.

By focusing on honesty, strong institutions and being good with technology, the Speaker gave politicians a clear plan for turning the public’s trust into positive results. He emphasized that being responsible leaders and continually learning are still essential to making democracy stronger and giving people what they need.
