The AAP replaced Chadha with Ashok Mittal, who used to be in industry and is now a member of the Rajya Sabha from Punjab. People within the AAP described the change as simply reorganizing things to make their strategy in parliament stronger.
A surprise shake-up in AAP leadership
This change happened after Chadha hadn’t been very involved in important party decisions or statements for several months. Some people inside the party wondered if the way he does things really fits with the AAP’s overall plan. The BJP (a different political party) said the change shows Chadha is separating himself from the AAP leadership, though the AAP hasn’re confirmed that.
What’s more, the AAP apparently asked the Rajya Sabha administration to not give Chadha a chance to speak as much as they normally would, using the AAP’s allotted speaking time. This surprised people, because Chadha has become known for bringing up problems important to the public in the Rajya Sabha.
Chadha responded with a video saying he’s been “silenced, not beaten”. He asked if it’s wrong to talk about the issues ordinary people deal with in parliament. He explained that when he speaks, he’s thinking about people’s difficulties, not fighting with other parties.
Chadha’s message: ‘silenced, not defeated’
He followed this up with a short video showing parts of his speeches during past sessions. He only used an Indian flag emoji as a caption, which emphasized that the issues he’s talking about are for the whole country, not just one political party. In another message, he asked why anyone would want to prevent him from talking about these things.
Chadha listed a bunch of things he’s concerned about: the price of food at airports, complaints from delivery people working for Zomato and Blinkit, fees at toll plazas and banks, the amount of tax people who make things have to pay, and how phone companies handle their monthly plans. He thinks bringing these things up shouldn’t hurt any political party.
Priyanka Chopra showed her support for Chadha’s video with “heart eyes” and clapping emojis, obviously showing she’s on his side. This support from a celebrity is adding to the attention this political story is getting online. Chadha is married to Parineeti Chopra, Priyanka’s cousin.

Khushboo Patani, Disha Patani’s sister, also said she believes in Chadha’s political future. When people with a public profile say something like this, it’s seen by a lot more people on social media and keeps attention on what Chadha wants to change.
Chadha wants to make it easier for people to get jobs after they finish their education. He’s suggested things like increasing wages along with the cost of living and having a discussion about making medical care the same for everyone across the country (so called “one nation, one medical treatment”). He also thinks Bhagat Singh (an Indian socialist revolutionary) should receive the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award.

He also wants fathers to get legal paid time off when a baby is born. He believes that both parents should be involved in raising a child and a father shouldn’t have to choose between getting a salary and caring for a newborn. He says the law should reflect how families are in today’s world.
Regarding girls and their periods, Chadha says schools need to have the basics: pads, water, trash cans, and a private place. He argues that these aren’t just extras; they’re about health, education, being equal, and being treated with respect.
He’s talked about the terrible traffic in cities. He said people in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, and Chennai lose 100 to 168 hours a year stuck in traffic. He wants a “National Urban Decongestion Mission” to improve public transportation and parking.
He criticized phone companies for calling a 28-day plan “monthly” and for deleting any unused data at midnight. He wants them to use 30 or 31-day cycles and to let you keep any data you didn’t use. He thinks you shouldn’t have to pay for something you weren’t able to use.
When it comes to the cost of travelling, Chadha liked the “Udaan Yatri Cafes” which are trying to sell food at airports for a reasonable price. He wants this to happen at more airports and inside the security area. He even posted a video of himself buying a chai for 10 rupees (a very small amount of money) at the Mumbai airport to make his point.
He also pointed out the fees and problems that affect regular people and those with lower incomes: bank fees, tolls, and interruptions in phone service when your monthly plan runs out before the end of the month. He says all these little annoyances really add up for middle-class families.
Chadha’s messages are really focused on the things that bother people every day. Talking about phone bills, prices at airports, and traffic jams appeals to students, people who do “gig” work (short-term jobs), and people with salaries. He has an agenda that’s focused on the consumer and tries to turn these small problems into national policy discussions.
From telecom billing to airport food, a consumer-first pitch
Replacing Chadha with Ashok Mittal means the AAP is changing its tactics in the Rajya Sabha. Mittal’s experience in business might mean he will deal with policy and industry issues in a different way. It’s not yet clear whether this will make the AAP’s voice in parliament stronger or more quiet.
What the reshuffle could mean for AAP
If the AAP does limit how much Chadha is allowed to speak, it will change how the AAP sounds in the Rajya Sabha. He often makes consumer rights and urban problems the main point, and these are things that are easily shared on social media. A different voice could mean the AAP focuses on other things.
But Chadha’s videos show he’s not backing down. He’s revisiting all the issues he’s raised and asking people to think about them, and believes that arguments in the public’s interest will continue to be valid even with what’s happening inside the party. And the support he’s gotten online suggests people are listening.
Priyanka Chopra’s approval probably won’t change the numbers in parliament. But it will make more people notice why the AAP made this change and whether Chadha’s focus on practical, things that affect your wallet, will continue to drive the discussion. Right now, he’s making it clear he intends to continue to speak his mind.
