Samsung’s Galaxy Glasses: Aiming to Outshine Apple with 2026 Launch

Samsung is getting ready to sell smart glasses - called Galaxy Glasses - and we get a hint of this from something in their One UI phone software. They're likely to be available by ****2026, and will work with Galaxy phones in a way a lot like Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses do. Samsung is also planning a more powerful second version for 2027 and this could make things a lot more competitive for Apple and other companies making wearable tech.

Samsung’s first smart glasses seem to be in the works and an icon found in their software is the evidence; it is for something named Galaxy Glasses. This being in the One UI code shows Samsung is getting the software prepared for a wearable and it’s likely to be on the market as early as and be part of the increasingly popular smart glasses category.

Icon in One UI points to active development

The icon showed up in One UI 8.5 and a One UI 9 version that isn’t out yet, inside the list of Bluetooth devices. It was with things like earbuds and smartwatches that you connect to your phone, which means Galaxy Glasses will work with Galaxy phones just like other Samsung accessories.

Typically, this sort of thing with the software happens before the actual device. Putting a type of device into the Bluetooth menu means Samsung is checking how to connect the glasses, the notifications they will send, and how to manage their power. These things are important for the glasses to work easily and be good to use every day.

Expected features and design hints

People are saying Galaxy Glasses will do much the same as Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, including using your voice and having basic audio and camera abilities. The first ones may be designed for wearing all the time, rather than doing lots of fancy ‘mixed reality’ things.

Samsung is also reportedly creating a second pair for 2027 with much more ambitious mixed reality features. This later model might show computer-generated images on top of the real world or work really closely with augmented reality apps, though nothing is certain until Samsung tells us what the hardware and software will be like.

Launch timeline and uncertainty

Rumors and the icon suggest a 2026 release, but Samsung hasn’t said anything officially about a product or date. Having this in the software is a very good indication of progress, but the dates could change as the hardware is developed and goes through the official approval process.

You should see these hints as encouraging but not certain. Phone companies often make a lot of different ideas for products within the company and only some of them will eventually be sold after being tested and improved.

How Samsung could compete with Apple and others

Samsung’s Galaxy range of products could allow Galaxy Glasses to connect to your phone easily and work with your media. If the glasses connect to the phone a lot, the glasses themselves can be lighter because they can use the phone’s processing power and services.

Apple are also preparing their own smart glasses which will depend on being used with an iPhone and will focus on looking good and being for everyday use. Google, Meta and partnerships with fashion brands are changing the way the market is, and the company whose glasses fit best with your other devices and are the most comfortable to wear could be the ones who do the best.

What to watch next

Watch out for future beta versions of One UI, listings with the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (which deal with Bluetooth standards) and official applications to regulatory bodies – these often show new product numbers. Early looks for developers can also show what Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and how the user interface for controlling glasses will look.

If Samsung does things in stages, we can expect a fairly simple, consumer-friendly launch at first, then a more sophisticated mixed reality model later. For now, Galaxy Glasses are an interesting sign of the efforts to make smart glasses popular.
