Farooq Abdullah had a close call Wednesday night when one bullet was fired at a wedding in Jammu, narrowly missing him, officials said. The event was attended by many senior politicians, including incumbent Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, who sustained minor splinter injuries. The assailant was quickly overpowered by security personnel while being apprehended by the police.
Case facts of the wedding shooting
The incident happened in Greater Kailash; a bungalow in the area hosted a family wedding event there. From the CCTV footage being circulated on social media, the man (not) wearing a mask is seen “sneaking up on Abdullah from behind and firing point-blank into the air.” The bullet did not hit the former chief minister, merely grazing close to an official.
The security took down the culprit the very moment the incident was started and kept him sheltered inside the event area until the police people arrived. The suspect was identified as Kamal Singh Jamwal, a Jammu resident reported to be involved in the mining sector. He was in an interrogation process overnight.
Suspects statement and reported motive
As relayed by the police briefings, Jamwal informed the investigators that he had possessed the intent to assassinate Farooq Abdullah for the last 20 years and had been able to realize that with his indicidual agenda. He had claimed that the gun he had used in the attack is yes, really and without any doubt, a private weapon and that he too had the requisite authority given to him to use it.
Police authorities are now to investigate these claims against his criminal history-appearance of threats, prior complaints, or any affiliations that point to this extent. Thus far, the suspect has maintained personal feelings have acted as his other possible motivation, and the police are yet to establish a political or organizational backing.
Security response and immediate reactions
This means that the former chief minister was besieged by quick action teams accompanying his security cover with Z+ labelling, a high-risk level. Omar Abdullah, son of Farooq Abdullah, the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, announced via viral that the former chief minister is still alive only because of the brave security and painstakingly brought attention to the worrisome invasion of a very well camouflaged armed intruder from within.
In support, Minister of State Surinder Singh Choudhary indicated that the attack at the wedding party was a glaring security breach and critically criticized why weren’t the local police deployed for guarding the function. Now, under the custody of the suspected man, he pressed for a proper inquiry.
Collecting Proof and Conducting Investigation Progress.
From the above, it can be inferred that security measures at events for former chief ministers with Z+ security details should be critically reviewed, thereby raising concerns about the vulnerability of individuals attempting to cause harm from close quarters. The possibility that the security screenings at various events, both government and social, will become stricter.
Questions may arise regarding the necessity for the protection of elected officials and whether the security resources can be considered adequate, at a political level. Furthermore, those concerned have cautiously urged calm, preferring to dwell upon the events as a result of the investigation and not simply entertaining itself with mere speculation.
The alleged masterminds are currently in police custody, mostly for further investigation and collecting evidence. News came that Farooq Abdullah is safe and in his senses from the shock he had suffered after what has happened, while other people are searching for the keys to the puzzle.
