Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), the AIADMK’s leader, presented the manifesto, and it’s built around helping with financial difficulties and inflation. The most important part of the plan is the “Kula Vilakku Scheme”, which will send 2,000 rupees each month to the woman in charge of each household with a ration card, directly into their bank account.
AIADMK Unveils 297-Promise Manifesto for Tamil Nadu Elections
The party believes this money will help families’ finances become more stable and provide a guaranteed minimum income. By giving the money to women, AIADMK thinks women will have more say in how the household spends money, and using the ration card information will make giving out the money easy and accurate.
In addition to the monthly money, the manifesto suggests a one-off payment of 10,000 rupees to every family. The party says this is because things are more expensive and taxes have gone up, and this quick cash boost will help families deal with higher prices for things they need and their utility bills.
One-Time Rs 10,000 Relief for Every Family
AIADMK is also criticizing the current government about inflation and taxes, and this payment is meant to clearly show voters how AIADMK would manage the economy differently. And if they go through with this promise, all households will get the money, no matter how much they already earn, on top of the monthly payments.
The help doesn’t stop at direct payments. People with ration cards will get lentils as well as rice, adding protein to what they get from the government, and each household with a ration card will get three free cooking gas cylinders a year to lower fuel costs.
Beyond Cash: Expanded Benefits for Ration Cardholders
There’s also a big change in transportation: free bus rides, which are currently only for women, will now include men. The manifesto also lists giving refrigerators to each household once, showing they’re not only offering help with things people use up, but also more lasting items.
Tamil Nadu will have just one day of voting on April 23, and the votes will be counted on May 4. The AIADMK and the other parties in the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) will be competing in more than 170 of the voting areas, making the AIADMK the main party in the group.
Alliance Math and Seat Sharing in Tamil Nadu
The BJP will be running in 27 areas, PMK in and AMMK in 11. They’re still talking to TMC (M) and other smaller parties to get support in more places, and will confirm those details soon as the campaign really gets going across the whole state.
The election is shaping up to be a competition between two main groups of parties. The DMK is leading the Secular Progressive Alliance, and the AIADMK is the main party in the NDA. A third option is also appearing, with TVK, led by Vijay the actor-turned-politician, preparing for their first election.
A Three-Front Contest Takes Shape
This situation with three options could make each side focus even more on their promises about helping people financially, their plans for changing things, and how well they represent different parts of Tamil Nadu. AIADMK hopes that a clear plan focusing on quickly getting cash to people will be the main topic of discussion and will convince people who haven’t decided yet to vote for them, both in cities and in the countryside.
In terms of the actual policies, the manifesto is relying on sending money directly to people to make things faster and reduce corruption. Giving money to the confirmed bank accounts of women who are in charge of households is like the way the national government sends out money directly, and could make it easier to check how the ration card system is working.
What the Promises Signal for Voters
Actually doing this will be key. They will need to find out who the head of each household is, make sure the bank details are up to date, and organize the delivery of the gas cylinders and refrigerators. This will require different parts of the government to work together. People will also be looking closely at the budget to see if the government has enough money for all this cash and these items.
Now that the voting date is set, the AIADMK manifesto provides a detailed plan for helping people and giving economic relief. The next few weeks will show if these promises can get people actively supporting them, while also considering which parties are in alliance and how competitive the election will be in Tamil Nadu.
