You can now reserve the ES 500e, which arrives in India as a “completely knocked down” unit (meaning it’s assembled here from parts). It’s a key part of Lexus’s plan to offer multiple kinds of electrified cars.
Positioning and Market Strategy
The Lexus ES has always been known for being comfortable, well-made, and quiet. The ES 500e keeps those qualities in an all-electric vehicle, but Lexus will also continue to offer hybrid versions for people who aren’t quite ready to go fully electric. A gasoline-hybrid ES 350h will be available soon, giving buyers options as more places to charge electric cars become available.
Lexus has sold the ES in over 80 countries, and in India, the ES 300h hybrid is popular. Now, the all-electric 500e is for people who want a luxurious electric sedan that’s peaceful, expertly built, can travel a long distance, and is practical for everyday use.
Powertrain, Range, and Charging
The ES 500e is built on the TNGA GA-K platform and uses a 74.69 kWh lithium-ion battery and two electric motors. Together they create up to 343 horsepower and 438 Nm of torque. Lexus says it goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, so it’s quick but quiet.
You can drive up to 580 kilometers on a full charge (this depends on how and where you drive). A fast charger (150 kW DC) can add enough charge for a journey of 10-80% in around 28 minutes. You also get an 11 kW AC charger for at home overnight charging.
Being comfortable to ride in is still very important to Lexus. The ES 500e has a sophisticated rear suspension, a stronger body, and is engineered to reduce vibrations. Lexus wants to give you a smooth, steady ride, especially on the highway.

Design and Aerodynamics
The new ES uses Lexus’ “Clean Tech x Elegance” design. At the front, L-shaped daytime running lights and Z-shaped turn signals surround the headlights (which are set into a glossy black area). The usual Lexus spindle grille is replaced with a simpler central section and a lower air intake with a pattern to help with cooling and airflow.
The sides are more streamlined; the door handles are flush with the body, there’s a distinct line along the side, and a glossy black highlight on an aerodynamic curve. The roof slopes down to a “Kamm-tail” at the back to reduce wind resistance. The back of the car has a single LED light bar that stretches across the width, and the Lexus name is lit up.
It’s 5,145 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, and 1,575 mm high with a wheelbase (the distance between the front and rear wheels) of 2,950 mm. It’s 158 mm off the ground, which is 20 mm higher than usual to handle Indian roads. Small channels in the body and carefully shaped bumpers improve how air flows around the car and make it look wider.

Cabin, Tech, and Safety
Inside, the dashboard is simple and designed for the driver, with fewer buttons. Most things are controlled by a 14-inch touchscreen that can be updated with new features over the air. You also get a 12.3-inch digital display where the traditional gauges are, a head-up display, and a three-spoke steering wheel for easy to see information and a comfortable grip.
The interior has soft materials, lights to set a mood, metal-looking details, and an optional Mark Levinson sound system. You can connect your Apple or Android phone wirelessly, charge your phone without a cable, use USB ports, and have different temperature settings for different parts of the car. An electrochromic glass roof adds a modern, open feeling to the cabin.
People in the back have more legroom, seats that lean back, and optional ottomans (footrests) and massage functions. Lexus’s new “Responsive Hidden Switches” are touch controls that are built into the surfaces of the interior. They’re out of sight, but easy to use.
Lexus Safety System+ has adaptive cruise control (which keeps you at a set distance from the car in front), lane tracing assist (which helps you stay in your lane), and systems to prevent crashes. These features are designed to make driving calmer and safer, and to reduce tiredness on long trips.
Connectivity, Ownership, and Availability
You can connect the ES 500e to the Lexus India app to check the battery level, set a charging schedule, and get the cabin to a comfortable temperature before you get in. These features help you manage how far you can drive and stay comfortable, and can be used with electricity pricing plans.
Lexus provides a full ownership package including roadside help and various charging options (for home and on the go). Both the car and the battery have an 8-year or 200,000 km warranty, which shows Lexus’s confidence in how dependable it is and how much it will cost to own in the long run.
At 89.99 lakh rupees, the Lexus ES 500e is a refined, long-range luxury electric sedan for India. Bookings are open, and with a hybrid model coming later, Lexus thinks that offering choice, quality, and comfort will attract customers in the luxury electric car market.
