iOS 27 Release: When Your iPhone Gets Apple’s Siri AI Overhaul

With iOS 27, Apple is making a big change to Siri, turning the voice assistant into an AI agent. We can expect to see it in stages: a developer beta on 8 June 2026, then one for the public in July, with the final version in September. You'll also find a new Siri app and some improvements to Camera, Photos and Dynamic Island.

There’s a lot of talk about this Siri overhaul in iOS 27, but for iPhone owners, the timing is what matters. If you put together Apple’s way of doing things and some of the latest reports, the new Siri and OS will be on your device in waves over the coming months, with the full release coming in line with the new phones.

When your iPhone is likely to get iOS 27

The developers will have first dibs. In true Apple fashion, the first beta of iOS 27 should come out on 8 June 2026, not long after they’re done with their WWDC presentation in Cupertino.

Then in July, a public beta is in the offing for those who like to be on the cutting edge. The no-strings-attached stable build won’t be here until September, when the new iPhones make their entrance.

If you have an older model, you can have the update in a few days’ time once the iPhone 18 Pro and Ultra are in the spotlight. Some even say the new Siri will be with us by September, just in time for Tim Cook to step aside for John Ternus.

Here’s a rundown of what to expect:

– Developer beta: 8 June 2026

– Public beta: July

– Stable release: September

– Older iPhones: a few days after the new ones

Siri is no longer just a voice assistant

What you’re looking at is a complete reimagining of Siri as an AI agent. Apple has been clear that it wants Siri to be more than a tool – to know your context, see what you’re looking at and do things for you.

Word is that after some in-house models didn’t quite hit the mark, Apple has changed course. They are now said to be running a custom Google Gemini model under the hood to make sure the features are up to snuff from day one.

You can also count on a fresh Siri app. Think of it as a chatbot for the modern age: it will keep tabs on your last few exchanges, let you nuke your history if you want, and has a way to attach files and photos.

We’re looking at a new button to make it a one-tap job to switch from voice to typing.

Then there’s the look of things. With iOS 27, Siri is in for a visual overhaul, with some reworked animations that you may have already seen in the company’s WWDC 2026 promo.

Faster actions via Dynamic Island and ‘Search or Ask’

On the iPhone, Siri will be making its home in the Dynamic Island, putting help right where your attention is. You can also pull down from the top centre of the screen to open up a fresh ‘Search or Ask’ interface.

It’s all about not having to jump between apps to get things done. The new UI should let you fire up an app, put in a calendar invite, or run a web search with Apple’s AI. What you get back is a text card that comes out of the Dynamic Island. Swipe down again and you’re in a chat with the Siri app. From here you can send a text, check the weather, set an appointment, or use the AI to do a deep-dive on the web – something to rival Perplexity.

Camera and Photos see some Apple Intelligence

Apple has some in-device smarts in store for your media as well. In the Camera app, you’ll find Visual Intelligence: point it at a product or a landmark and let Siri, with the help of services like ChatGPT or Google Gemini, tell you what it is.

The app is being retooled too. That row of shortcuts at the top is going to be made to your liking with a new ‘Add Widgets’ option, so you can put the controls you actually use – like Night mode or the timer – front and centre.

Over in Photos, we’re to expect some of the same. There are tools in the works like Reframe and Extend, and you might be able to just tell the app to crop a picture or tone down some colours. Don’t count on seeing the prompt-based side of that in day one of iOS 27, though.

What’s in store

WWDC is where Apple will put iOS 27 and macOS 27 on display, with Siri’s new AI muscle front and centre. Go by the book and you can bet developers will be in on it 8 June 2026, with the rest of us in July and September.

Some of this may change as the beta runs its course, but you can see where they’re heading: an iOS 27 where Siri is more of a presence and the kind of tasks you do every day in the Camera, Photos and through the Dynamic Island are handled with a bit more intelligence.
